I realize that I've gone on and on about how much I love the combination of chocolate and peanut butter. It's the ultimate in sweet and salty. So, I expected to LOVE these cookies chosen by Stefany of Proceed with Caution for this week's Tuesdays with Dorie. Unfortunately, I did not love these cookies.
First complaint: Not enough peanut butter. When you name a recipe and the first words in the recipe are PEANUT BUTTER, I expect to be able to taste peanut butter when I bite into the dish. Could I taste peanut butter? Nope. I mean, why add the freaking peanut butter if you can't taste it? It's not like it's a health food or something...
Second complaint: Too much other shit thrown into the cookie recipe, like cinnamon and nutmeg. Now, if you know me (and I think you do by now), you know that I don't like nutmeg, so of course I eliminated that ingredient (thank god), but against my better judgement, I did throw in the cinnamon. I mean, I love cinnamon! I thought it sounded a bit odd to go with chocolate chips and peanut butter, but whatever I didn't want to rebel too much. But, I should have gone with my first instinct. I mean, these cookies are like cinnamon chocolate cookies. That's all you can taste, cinnamon and chocolate. It actually made me wish that I had subbed raisins for chocolate chips (shocking, I know)! I mean... the cinnamon is so powerful in this recipe and I think it's probably one of the main reasons that you can't taste the peanut butter.
So, yeah, these cookies are edible and everything and the texture is great... but I'm just not a fan of cinnamon with chocolate and peanut butter. Now, if you love cinnamon and chocolate, give these cookies or try, or sub raisins for the chocolate chips. But, if you're looking for a delicious peanut buttery, chocolate chip and oatmeal cookie try these, they're delicious (but I'd still add more peanut butter to that recipe, too).

i couldn't really taste the peanut butter in mine either, and agree that there was a bit too much going on with the cookies, though it wasn't the cinnamon that bothered me so much. next time i'm either going to leave out the chocolate (most likely) or use semisweet instead. bittersweet chocolate was just a bit too jarring. i did like them anyway - can't seem to stop snacking on them - but i'll change the recipe the next time i make them.
i think the cookie dough smelled more peanut buttery than it ended up tasting.
I whole heartedly agree with all of your complaints.
Because I was too lazy to open the new giant bag of chocolate chips that I bought from Costco, I just used the remaining PB chips that I had. When you do a 50/50 of PB and Choc. Chips and then only do half the cinnamon, and no nutmeg, your cookies will probably be much more to your liking. I only did a tiny pinch of nutmeg and 1/2 the cinnamon and I loved them. They were a big hit at work too. I totally agree with you though, if I didn't have the PB chips I would have been pissed that these cookies tried to call themselves PB.
Ok, I just read more that this post! When I saw you had 25 postings involving chocolate chip cookies, I thought to myself, this girl IS the authority! I will be definitely trying the Torres cookie you blogged about. I'll let you know what we think!!!
I'm sorry you didn't like them so much! Hopefully next week will be better!
Well, they sure do look great anyway! Sorry they weren't a hit!
Hi,
Try these out - they're fantastic. I upped the peanut butter to 1 cup instead of the 3/4 cup listed, used lightly salted creamy natural peanut butter (yeah, I know everyone recommends NOT using natural, but I like it), I dropped the cookies by rounded Tbsp instead of tsp and pressed slightly to flatten, and used Ghirardelli semi-sweet chips. Baked them about 12 minutes.

I omitted the nutmeg too, but I thought the cinnamon enhanced the peanut butter flavour really well (although I reduced it to one tsp instead of two). Even though you didn't like that so much, they still look delicious though!
Yup. I agree. I want more peanut butter!
Hey there - for a very specific reason, I just passed along a blog award to you! Love your blog....
